The Town of Bourne is know as the "gateway" to Cape Cod.  Because you avoid most of the Cape traffic, many people find it convenient to have their summer homes in Bourne, as it greatly cuts down on commuting time to Providence, Connecticut and New York.

Bourne encompasses land on both the "mainland" and the Cape.  On the mainland side it borders the towns of Plymouth and also Wareham.  The sections of Bourne on the mainland side are Sagamore Beach, Bournedale and Buzzards Bay. 

Sagamore Beach is located between Plymouth and the Cape Cod Canal.  It is known for it's waterfront beach cottages that stretch from the Cedarville section of Plymouth to the shores of the Cape Cod Canal by the Massachusetts state park at Scusset Beach. On both sides of the canal there are several areas to park your car for a picnic, watch the boats and ships pass through from Buzzards Bay to Cape Cod Bay, fish and/or and walk/bike the +/- 7 mile stretch of paved trail.  

Buzzards Bay is home to Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  It is also known for it's antique stores along Main Street and in September the Bourne Scallop Festival, which brings thousands of visitors each year.   

Just over the Bourne Bridge on the Cape Cod side, you find Gray Gables.  This was a popular summertime vacation spot for President Grover Cleveland. Gray Gables overlooks the Cape Cod Canal.

Travelling further along Route 28, or 28A you come to Monument Beach, Pocasset and Cataumet.  There are several quaint harbors in these charming villages of Bourne.
