REPORT OF
BARNSTABLE COUNTY REAL ESTATE ACTIVITY
FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2005
2005
RECORDING VOLUME DIPS!
2005 vs.
2004
2005 was good
year for business at the Barnstable Registry of Deeds. It
did, however, pale in comparison to some of the busy years
we have had in the past decade. This past year saw a total
of 124,763 documents and plans recorded at the registry
and in the
Land Court
. This number was a 9.7% decrease from the year 2004,
which saw 138,119 documents and plans recorded. It was
also a significant drop from 2003 (our busiest year to
date), a decrease of 37%. That year saw a total of 200,049
documents and plans recorded at the registry and in the
Land Court
.
Do not be
fooled by the decrease…2005 follows (in order) 2003, 2002,
1998, 2004, 1986 and 1999 as one of busiest years ever in
our 300 year history.
For transactions between $25,000 and
$1,000,000 the volume of real estate sales for 2005
compared to 2004 was down 9.3%. The total value of sales
was down 4.4% from the previous year. The average
individual property sales value was up 5.4% from the
previous year. Mortgage activity dropped 11.3% from last
year’s levels.
